Closing Out An Alchemists Paradise

When a factory or shop closes it's unfortunate. When that place is where history was made if only in some small corner of our world it's a melancholy third act. Let me show you one small example. The second shop location for Precious Metals West, Ontario California. Soon to be gone. The company is relocating for its third chapter, a new shop in a new location.

Green Flash Sunset

Finally saw it for myself, it's real. One eerie second where it looked like the sun had sunk in the water and was glowing through. I suppose the light rays did something a lot like that, and the atmosphere was kind enough to reflect my way just as I pushed the shutter.

Recent Musings

Learning more about lens optics and getting out for more movies in the theater has got me looking back at camera raw files from years ago. For some reason the really wide format is more appealing to me than ever.

Spring like temperatures in February got me out to work with my 400 mm lens at minimum focus distance and wide open aperture. In theory the sharpest a lens can deliver is in that configuration.

Happy New 2016

2015 Came in with promise and challenges. It faded away with more the color of the latter than the former, at least for me. This year truly looks like a better brighter year for most of us. I was simply in no mood for a noisy celebration this year family matters have rendered this season a somber one.

So say hello to 2016. We drove hours up to to Long Pine for this shot, among others of course. But this shot was literally my first frame shot in the new year so it gets a post all it's own,

Metadata-Alabama Hills park. Time, about eight in the morning. Oh I can assure my fellow Canon fans that the camera runs well at a mere ten degrees Fahrenheit. I mean that was chilly! Canon 7D II, 400 mm Telephoto. F 10 1/8000 shutter. ISO 800.

Moonlight Beach at Sunset

Had quite a weekend down around Carlsbad, Leucadia Encinitas area. A couple of the images from the day.  Top image shot with the canon 14mm L and the bottom the 400mm Super tele. 7D Mark II body. Met some great people. A shoutout to Marine Safety Sgt Robert Veria who was kind enough to talk to us about some of the local highlights, wildlife and geology.
